Collected and kept safely by 5 generations for 160 years, a trove of photographs re-emerged in 2017. The photos lead back via her daughters to Sarah Griffin (nee Deacon) and her mother Eliza Ellis/Deacon (nee Lockett) who migrated to New Zealand in 1841.
Eliza’s marriage to Captain James Ellis in 1842, then to Thomas William Deacon in 1853, resulted in 12 children who grew up in Riverhead on the Waitemata Harbour north of Auckland, New Zealand.
The photographs and documents now form part of the Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1809-002, catalogued as the Lockett-Deacon-Griffin Collection.
Riverhead descendants and their families are welcome to contribute to this website (see contact page).
